McChrystal Gets What’s Coming To Him
General McChrystal, the U.S. Commander of the War in Afghanistan has been fired by the President as a result of remarks he made to a Rolling Stone reporter during a month that the reporter followed the General’s staff. The article, which hit the streets this week, paints a picture of a General and his staff who are openly contemptuous of the President, the Vice President, and the President’s National Security team.
Whether you agree or disagree with the comments that the General makes in the article (and I have to admit, I think that I may be with the General here), the fact is that someone in his position has absolutely no right to air his dirty laundry in public. The President is Commander in Chief of the armed forces and if you are going to wear the uniform of a General, you need to show respect to that position regardless of your personal opinions about the present occupant of the office.
Quite honestly with a mouth like he has, it’s amazing that he made it as far as he did and it really is a shame as this now is yet one more distraction that neither the President nor the country needs. President Obama has had to assign General Petraeus to oversee Afghanistan, which diverts the General from his larger role of supervising the entire Middle East Theater.
Overall, there are really no two sides on this one. The General was wrong and the President right in firing him. I really hope that the talk shows can dispense with this story quickly.

Has President Obama Become That Which He Despised?
I really wanted to find a nice WordPress theme in the politics category. It took me a bit of time, but I came across this one. I hope you like it. What was interesting though, is that by default, if you do not configure specific widgets in your sidebar, the theme provides several default widgets, one of which was a featured video segment that included this video made by President Obama (then Senator Obama) in 2007 as he contemplated launching his presidential run.
I find that many of the themes he speaks of in this short clip are ones that you will likely see me echo on the pages of the blog as time goes on. In a large way, I find myself in agreement with much of what he says in this 2007 video. I’ll leave you with a question – has the President become that which he says he despises in this video and if so, should he be thinking about stepping down?
